Group Therapy

Group Therapy provides a slightly different therapeutic experience than individual or couple’s treatment. Here, the format involves individuals with similar concerns and difficulties coming together to work through a difficult time in their lives. Group therapy provides a supportive environment in which all individuals work on personal goals within a topic of concerns to all members. Each group begins with the therapist proving psycho-education on a relevant topic to the group. The members then work together to discuss this topic and how it affects them. Members experience psychological growth from sharing issues, feedback, support, and information. My goal for you is to leave group therapy with a personal mental toolbox that includes new understandings, new coping and a renewed sense of self.

Group therapy has been found to be a very effective psychological treatment modality due to the power of normalization and validation of feelings in a non-judgmental environment.

The Most Common Presenting Issues for Group Therapy:

Current Groups:

“Women and the Divorce Spectrum”

The Process:

Group Therapy (as all the Services I provide) begins with a 90 minute Intake. This first session allows for deep and clear understanding of the issues you want to address. This meeting also allows for a full explanation of what is expected and what to expect in a group therapy setting. Additionally, this session allows you to examine how you feel in session with my particular style and in the setting I provide. If we agree at the end of this meeting that you are a good candidate for the particular group, we move into regularly scheduled weekly group sessions that are either 50 or 75 minutes.

The Approach:

My approach to Group Therapy draws from many schools of thought in psychology –however the main approaches I draw from are Psychodynamic Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Theory/Top Down Approaches, Neuroscience Teachings and Interpersonal Neurobiology.

I teach you, and work from my program: “Go Left and Be Right”: This is a Neuro-Emotional Program that is designed to help individuals use their understanding of the brain to observe, manage and change ones relationship with the self and with others.
